Ichybum Frequently Asked Questions

From a medical perspective, pruritus ani (persistent itching around the anus) is a symptom and not the diagnosis of a condition. It is a common problem which is more prevalent in people over the age of 40 and more common for men than for women. It can, however, affect people of all ages including children. The urge to itch tends to occur more commonly after going to the toilet for a bowel motion and/or at night. Aside from the fact that continual scratching can damage the sensitive skin of the anal area thereby increasing the likelihood of infection, the problem can interrupt sleep patterns and be a cause of embarrassment. Pruritus ani has many causes and is only seldom due to a serious underlying medical condition.

There isn’t a single, specific treatment that will cure pruritus ani (anal itching) because it can have many different causes and how long the itching lasts depends on its cause. In many cases it may be impossible to establish it’s cause. Where the cause of the irritation can be identified it will be possible to treat this appropriately. As part of this treatment or when no obvious cause for the itching can be found, Ichybum Cream can be used to provide relief until the problem disappears.

Ichybum should be used in accordance with the instructions on the label and on the Product Information Leaflet contained within the packaging. If the pruritus ani reoccurs, ichybum cream can be used intermittently as required. You should talk to your healthcare professional about long term use of Ichybum.

Apply Ichybum once or twice during the day as required and at night before going to sleep.

There is no need to apply liberal amounts of Ichybum. You only need to apply Ichybum thinly over the affected area. If you need to, you can increase the amount slightly.

Ichybum may not be as effective after the expiry date.

Ichybum should only be used by children under 12 on the advice of a healthcare professional. The most common cause of anal itching for children is threadworms or tapeworms which can be treated fairly easily and inexpensively.
For more information about threadworms click here.
For more information about tapeworms click here.

Anal bleeding can be a symptom of haemorrhoids or of a more serious condition. You should consult your healthcare provider if you have anal bleeding or if there is blood in your faeces.

If you are pregnant or nursing a baby you should consult a healthcare professional before using any medication

Ichybum is used to help relieve the symptoms of pruritus ani and other afflictions involving chronic itching around the anus (e.g. hemorrhoids). We do not recommend the use of Ichybum for any other purpose.

Ichybum Cream should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Seborrheic Dermatitis Frequently Asked Questions

Dermatitis is an inflammatory skin disorder that presents as an itchy or burning red rash with flaky scales. The scales can be white or yellowish and look moist or oily. The word “seborrheic” indicates that it pertains to sebaceous (i.e. greasy) areas of the skin such as the scalp, face and centre of the chest. Dandruff (or cradle cap for babies) are common names for mild forms of Seborrheic Dermatitis occurring on the scalp. It is a common skin condition reported to affect around 4% of the population that looks similar to other skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis or an allergic reaction.

Like psoriasis, the precise cause of Seborrheic Dermatitis is unknown. There are theories that it could be caused due to issues with the body’s immune or nervous systems, lack of specific nutrients or as a reaction to the excess production of a certain yeast that lives on the skin called Malassezia. It is understood that stress and/or tiredness can cause an outbreak of the condition.

Seborrheic Dermatitis is often a lifelong condition that clears and returns. While the symptoms and signs can be treated and often cleared, there is no permanent cure.

For dandruff, over-the-counter anti-dandruff shampoos containing ingredients such as selenium sulphide, ketoconazole, coal tar and/or salicylic acid can be used regularly in the treatment of the condition. Elsewhere on the body, popular and effective medications include anti-fungals, corticosteroid creams/lotions, sulfur products and prescription-strength shampoos.

Dermoscribe Seborrheic Dermatitis Cream is based on a proven formula that has been prescribed by dermatologists around the world for decades to help relieve the symptoms and the signs of Seborrheic Dermatitis. Its active ingredients are 1) Sulfur, which has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, 2) Hydrocortisone, which acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and 3) Salicylic Acid which helps break down the scaly plaque, thereby improving the appearance of the skin as well as aiding penetration of the other active ingredients. Dermoscribe Seborrheic Dermatitis Cream is manufactured in the USA to a specific formula in a Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) registered, GMP (Good Manufacturing Process) compliant facility. It is registered under the FDA’s National Drug Code (No: 69683-202-11).

Wash your hands well with soap and water before and after use. Using your fingers, apply the cream over the affected area. The frequency of your application depends upon the severity of your condition. The cream can be used once or twice daily (morning and evening).  Ask your health care professional if you are unsure about the correct dosage for you.
